The Club (motto: Clava Recta*) was formed in 1973 by the songwriter Tim Rice. 2005 was its 33 rd season, which culminated in the side’s 500 th match.
Extraordinary to relate the team’s record after 500 matches stood at Won 166, Drawn 166, Lost 166, Tied 2. However the Heartaches Committee does not acknowledge one of the defeats, in 1982, when a game against William Heath’s Gentlemen was erroneously ended before the Gentlemen had actually passed the Heartaches score (which they might not have done). Thus in the official records (to be added to this site soon), the relevant tallies after 500 games read Lost 165, Result Disputed 1. This dispute, having rumbled on for 23 years, shows little sign of being resolved, despite intervention by MCC.

In due course we hope that this site will contain everything you could possibly wish to know about the lads in red, pink and green, from past achievements to future plans. In both words and pictures we hope to capture the essence and spirit of the side, and to be an encouragement to fellow cricketers fighting against the ravages of time. We also hope to unload some Heartaches and Hearts-related merchandise (i.e. souvenir mugs and Evita CDs). There will also be an opportunity for you to air your comments, which we reserve the right to ignore or ridicule.
